We have had a sociable weekend, enjoying getting to know some of our new friends better. On Saturday afternoon we went for a 'cook out' (what we call a barbeque!) at the home of Nate and Gina Killoren - the SIM pilot and his wife, and their son Liam. Taylor and Alison Martin and daughter Avery, who live above us, joined us too.
Once we finally got the barbeque going we enjoyed the novel taste of barbequed sausages previously boiled in - well let's just say, it wasn't water - together with roast chicken and tasty side dishes. Once we had relocated inside the children enjoyed having stories read to them by Taylor. With them all getting over excited, we hastily drew the evening to a close and whisked them away to bed!
We have recently joined a Bible study group that meets before the English service at our church, and today we joined them for a social at one of their homes. It was a lovely occasion and very special for us to feel like we are making some Kenyan friends. It was our first experience of eating typical Africal food: beef and goat stews, rice and chapaties - and the children tried it quite happily (though Caleb commented at supper that 20 bits of goat had got stuck in his teeth!) The photo below shows them with their new friends Rodney and Adrian.
After food the children took themselves off into a bedroom and played noisily, while the adults played their own games outside. Daddy ventured inside a few times and found Caleb and Bethanie happily bouncing off the walls with the best of them!
The grown-ups had as much fun, playing a forfeits game (Justin preached his first and shortest sermon in Africa!), Deborah won a competition for who could laugh the longest, and a strange game that involved passing a bowl of flour round the circle and marking each others faces! A more helpful game involved having to go round the group remembering everyone's names.
