Our first whole day together was a Sunday so our family got to meet our church family and enjoy several hours of singing in Mabaan and Arabic. The highlight for Dad was the goodbye greeting line, a way of making sure that everyone in church has shaken everyone else's hand.
Monday was the feast of Eid, marking the end of Ramadan, and a public holiday. The team took the truck into town and enjoyed exploring the market together and a meal in a market stall "cafe".

On Tuesday we took a tour around Doro village and the different SIM activities there. Here, Mary and Gareth are standing in the "waiting room" for the clinic and looking towards the construction site where a new ward is taking shape.

On Wednesday we paid a visit to Pastor John Kaiya and his family who live just a few minutes' walk away in Doro.

His wife, Elizabeth, prepared tea and roasted corn for us...

... followed by sugary, gingery, Sudanese coffee. Cheers to a wonderful time in Doro! (Dad was heard murmering, "It's hard to believe that this time next week I will be sitting in a board meeting..")

On Thursday, Gareth spent time with SIM's 8 trainee Community Health Workers and taught some principles for Christian health-care (which the CHWs were tested on the next day!). Mary helped Deborah with the week's washing and had it done in record time.
Sadly, Friday was the day that the plane came to take Mary and Gareth back to Nairobi. A few tears were shed but many more happy memories were cherished. There was a good turn-out at the airstrip to wave them off!
