Water conclusion

It has been a big couple of weeks for the water work. With Dau leaving on the 14th we have been working hard to complete a couple of projects. The team has also grown with the addition of Joseph, one of the CHW graduates, and Abel, a local lad who kept coming to the compound asking for work!

We returned to one of the communities Justin visited back in April to talk with the leaders about how we could help them, showing them some things that could be added to the river water to make it safe to drink.

This last week we succeeded in completing the water supply to the clinic. We installed the valves in the chambers and connected up the pipework to the tanks on our new tank stand.

It was a great moment when we turned on the pump and after a short wait water began to pour into the tanks! It was great that Dau could see the completion of this project just before he leaves.

To conclude our time with Dau as part of the team we also made a return visit to Nalgan to teach the community and show them how to use the things we brought for them. We began with a visit to the river to collect some ‘fresh’ river water – beautiful to look at, but not to drink!

The people listened attentively to some Bible teaching and seemed to enjoy and appreciate the health teaching. We tried a couple of new things – a sort of drama showing how germs spread, using flour for visible germs, and a game involving throwing a water balloon around. Hopefully both helped to make the teaching more memorable!

We took them two barrel sand filters and hope to return next week to show them how to wash sand and finish making them.
Overall, it was wonderful to see all that the team had accomplished in the 2 months since Dau arrived. It has been a great encouragement to Justin to have Dau working alongside him.

It is very gratifying to see the team grow and how everyone has a part to play. From left to right: Joseph (CHW graduate from Gasmalla), Leman (labourer from Yabus), Justin (Kawaja), Dau (construction diploma from Nairobi), Abel (apprentice from Bunj).
