"I'm still eating"

Our New Year's Day was one to remember... We went as a family to Gasmalla, 30 minutes away on the quad bike. It is the first time we have travelled any distance this way - and it was great fun! (Bethanie was so comfortable she fell asleep on the way home!)

Amy came with us and Chris and her sister were already there, so it was nice to spend the day together, enjoying the hospitality of our Sudanese friends in the village.

After sitting with the grown-ups drinking tea and coffee we got down to some serious play with the village children: football, singing ... and Bethanie's pink puppet, which we're not sure what they made of!

I don't think the grown ups were having nearly so much fun...

We took the kids to see the river (it's too far from Doro for them to get to see it there).

We came prepared with a sheet of black polythene which made an excellent slide into the water - much enjoyed by Caleb and lots of children from the village.

They gave us a generous meal back at the village on our return, which the children were quite happy to eat. When the lady took the platter away Bethanie was not impressed: "I'm still eating" she said, much to all of our amusement. A sure sign that they are getting the hang of life in Sudan.
