SIM has purchased a small Cessna 206, which arrived in pieces in a container last year. It is now being patiently stripped and re-assembled by Nate Killoran, SIM-Sudan's pilot and various engineers in the AIM hanger. Nate gave us a tour of the hanger and told us about various other things of interest, including the Samaritan's Purse DC3 which filled the hangar and dwarfed our little plane!
Some of the things Caleb learned about our plane are:
- It's skin is twice the thickness of an aluminium drinks can
- It is 8m long and weighs about 1 tonne
- It takes off at 70 mph and flies at 150 mph
Nate and the team have already finished the plane's twin that also came in the container, so hopefully it wont be too many months before it is available to fly us into Sudan!
Afterwards, we had lunch at the Aero Club - Caleb was almost as impressed with the climbing frame as with the planes!
And we also liked the Zebra plane over the fence!
Caleb has been inspired and has been working on a design for the SIM plane when it is finished. If only...!
