Animal Magic

As well as making everything beautifully green, the rains have brought some interesting creatures along. Here's a sample of some of the things we've seen this past week or so...

There are thousands of white, yellow and purple butterflies around, particularly after we've watered our seeds

This one gets the prize for being the most bizarre creature we have seen, an armour plated praying mantis, which moved like a robot!

We found this moth in our tukel porch one morning last week. It was in no hurry to leave and stayed around for the rest of the day.

And this toad had made himself comfortable in the ashes of our charcoal stove!

There are lots of cute little birds around, enjoying the insects around the compound. Our favourites are these bright red and chalky blue ones.

And its not just animals we've been enjoying - the rains have brought out some interesting plants and flowers

And last but not least, our least favourite visitors - snakes! Only scroll down if you are not squeemish...

This one is the tree climbing variety, watching us closely from the fence!
