Naivasha part 1

As we set out for our holiday, it was a scarily foggy journey along the 'top road' overlooking the Rift Valley.  Especially as the matatus (local name for crazily driven minibuses) still insisted on overtaking without any idea of what was going to hit them.

No catalytic converters here - take a look at those fumes

We're here!

The view from our cabins (for pic of cabin see part 2) over Lake Naivasha.  Candelabra trees are a feature of the area and you can see one in the centre of the pic.

Let the games begin..

Shooting flamingo

Bullseye

Eating out at the Fisherman's Camp restaurant - great pizza (Wed to Fri) - today we had some of the other exciting things on the menu.  Wouldn't recommend the jerk chicken but the burgers and pasta were very yummy.

First round of candlelit Settlers

Day two started at Hells Gate National Park.  Games drives, rock climbing and an incredible gorge walk are all not to be missed.

Matt gets ready to scale Fishers Tower

Caleb goes for it without ropes

Beth enjoys the view
and the rock hyrax that live here are very cute

I'm not sure that Matt's enjoying it so much - don't look down!

The gorge walk gave us some more scrambling without ropes

but also some very pleasant wandering by hot streams

and stunning scenery

John, our Masaai guide (his real name was something like Olosarong), was the first Masai boy to scale the central tower without ropes - his father beat him when he got down for being so careless with his life!
Caleb looks worryingly up for the challenge too!

Still a very geothermically active region - supplies something like 10% of Kenya's power.
