Week 3 - Keswick Convention

Justin managed to find us an awesome place to stop for our picnic on our journey from Wales to the Lake District (4.5hrs).  I couldn't pronounce it but the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is a World Heritage Site just near Wrexham.  An engineer's paradise!

It was lovely to arrive at our cosy log cabin to find the Fisher and Richardson families already there and jacket potatoes on the menu for supper.  The 139th Keswick Convention (week 2) officially kicked off that evening and half the adults plus the older kids walked into town for the evening programme.  The small town of Keswick, on the shores of Derwent Water, graciously hosts around 10,000 Christian conference go-ers, spread over 3 weeks, each summer.  Brilliant Bible teaching in a beautiful location makes for a very special week.
On Sunday we had a picnic lunch on the shores of Derwent Water with Deb's brother Paul

Then we joined our friends on the ferry around the lake, getting off at Ashness Bridge for a bit of an explore.

Bethanie, Ella, Jonathan, Caleb, Paul, Anna and Samuel

Caleb was thrilled to be in Swallows and Amazons  country

None of us are experienced sailors, so rowing was a good option

The best bit was getting out to explore some of the many little islands in the lake

"Can't see any pirates!"

He kept this up for a good 20 mins!

One of my (Deb's) favourite mornings was when Paul and I skived off the meetings and went for a walk right round the perimeter of Derwent Water.  We had to jog the last bit to get back in time for Paul's lunch-time responsibilities but it was such a precious time to talk and a wonderful kaleidoscope of changing environments.

We had a couple of meet-ups with our friends (from Doro days) Rob, Emily & Rhoda Hinton, who were also holidaying in the Lakes.

How did the kids end up with all the comfy chairs?

Cathy F, Justin, Deb, Andy F, Adam R & Heather R - very good company for the week :)

Each day we walked into town along the river, through a very lovely park.

They were proper camping (well, in a classy way)

This was the only type of tent we went in all week

Just to prove we did go to some meetings!

England won the Ashes and Prince George made his entrance into the world this week too.
