March 2014

March started with Caleb going on a 3 day school trip to Mombasa - here they are in the hot and steamy Haller Park

Getting girly!

On 11th March Deborah was rushed to hospital in a bad way and it was discovered that she had an ectopic pregnancy and serious internal bleeding.  Several days in hospital and an operation later, she was able to come home to recuperate.  Meanwhile friends rallied round to help with the kids, food, medical advice and Justin held the fort magnificently.

Justin's 'New Horizons' training course starts.  It's aim is to bridge the gap between school and university - upping the students' standards in Maths, English and study skills, as well as mentoring them through Bible studies, seminars on life issues and one-to-one time.  This first term he has 10 students - 3 Kenyans and 7 South Sudanese, 8 men and 2 women.

On the last day of term the kids go to a goodbye party at the British High Commission compound for their friends Matthew, Katie and Jamie.  Saying goodbye to good friends is never easy but we hope we will see the Ash Vies again in the UK.  The world should be a safer place now Anne and Deborah can't have Friday lunches together for a while...

Whilst Bethanie is at a birthday party, the rest of us enjoy a cup of tea and a snack at Dari, a restaurant in Karen.  Little did we know that they had a new baby gazelle in their garden - what a treat!
