Return to Kenya

After a wait of 2 years 3 months, Deborah and Justin have had the opportunity to revisit friends in Kenya!

Friday (Day 1)

We woke early on Friday morning with a plan to enjoy the local scenes and re-live the walk to the SIM office

Things we love about Kenya 1: splashes of intense colour!

Things we love about Kenya 2: Roadside interest!

Things we don't like: tall buildings and traffic - but it is Kenya all the same!

First things first: a coffee at Java House in the Yaya centre by the office.  We enjoyed introducing Deborah's colleague Hannah to our favourite bits of Nairobi.

We dropped in at Christiane's apartment briefly to greet Pastor James Haruun. Another old friend who lived in Doro with us in 2010 was also there!

Greeting a very happy Dau! We went to his home in Karen for a late lunch.

Dau shared about the situation in his country and with his relatives. His sister and 15 year old nephew are both now living with him having been through some traumatic experiences amidst the violence in recent years.

Washing hands before lunch.

Enjoying South Sudanese food including the famed kisera (pancakes made from sorghum)

Group photo with Dau's sister (far left) and cousin (next left) who did the cooking

Saturday (Day 2)

Lunch with friends Jake and Teresa whom we stayed with the first weekend

Some familiar sights had changed: Adams arcade with trees cut down for road widening, mosque knocked down for re-development, and market spilling out to the road.

Thankfully some things hadn't changed: beautiful jacaranda...

...the school where Caleb and Beth both went for Years 2-3...

... and our old apartment block! We went to meet our old friends and neighbours Purnima & Prakash

Sat evening was spent with friends Jon and Amiee and their five children

Sunday (Day 3)

A very happy return visit to Good Shepherd church and the adult Bible Study (that meets before the service) that Deborah was part of for several years.

Amazingly, it was the last Sunday for the group leaders who have been in Kenya for 27 years but are now returning to Nigeria

A special group photo was in order

A view of the auditorium where we enjoyed enthusiastic praise and worship

Then it was lunch with Chris and Beverly, Director of the South Sudan team for the 7 years of our involvement

Monday (Day 4)

A slow start for Justin while Deborah went to the South Sudan team prayer morning. Justin sat on the veranda overlooking the compound where we were staying

When he finally ventured out he was thrilled to bump into our old gate guard, now on duty somewhere else

Lunch with Vicki at... you guessed it, Java House!

Beautiful bougainvillea!
