December holidays

The beginning of the school holidays was also the end of our time having these guys as our neighbours - boo hoo!  We went out for a last meal together in Nairobi and hope we will meet again in either Pakistan or the UK
Caleb, Shehryar, Narmeen and Bethanie

Waseem, Justin, Shazia and Deborah

Then it was time to take Mum, Dad and Paul to our other favourite place, stopping off in beautiful Naivasha on the way.
The view from the Old Naivasha Road, you can see Mt Longonot, a dormant volcano in the distance

It was baby season in Hells Gate National Park

The secretary bird is so cool!

I'm not sure whether Mum found this reassuring or concerning as she braved the Gorge Walk

Mum & Dad treated us all to a night at the lovely Sopa Lodge

The Candelabra trees (euphorbia family) on the way to the dining area

Bethanie's favourite place

Enough deserts to keep Caleb and Justin happy!

The following morning some of us took the chance to walk amongst the animals on Crescent Island
A handsome waterbuck

Part of Out of Africa was filmed here

Arriving at Kembu cottages, Njoro (www.kembu.com), Caleb and Bethanie are at home straight away (and yes, they have got into their pjs!)

This one makes me very happy - Grandad hugs!

Puzzling
Now Deborah has some reading company

After a stay that was blissful but as usual felt all-too-short it was time to go home and prepare for Christmas and a birthday!
Our first attempt ever at a gingerbread house

It worked!

Christmas morning stockings

Christmas lunch with the added bonus of Claire M who we introduced to the joys of bread sauce!

Family photo

A fun game of Empires (thanks Ruth!)

Up early on Boxing Day for our traditional breakfast in Nairobi National Park
There should be a good caption for this one but it's not coming to me yet!

Jake and Joel get the fire going

The women are slaving away too.  We seem to have been too busy eating bacon and eggs after that to take many photos but giraffe and impala passed us by.  Fortunately the lions had already had their breakfast (as some of us had witnessed).

Jake nobly gets out to test how deep this water is.  When Deb's turn came a bit later she just drove straight through and hoped for the best!

A trip to the Railway Museum with Grandad, Dad and Uncle Paul

A meal out at Mambo Italia - you have to try the Thaifrican and Swahili Beach pizzas!

On their last day we went for a New Year's Eve stroll/bike-ride in Karura Forest

These were the blissfully happy moments at top speed on a very rutted path...

Oh what a sad one to end on but this was the result of the crash Caleb had a few moments later - ouch!  A few days later we headed up to Kijabe hospital to have his arm set in plaster - it was an impacted fracture but 4 weeks in plaster saw him right :)
