Landing back in Nairobi on the evening of Aug 31st we wondered what we'd find at JKIA, as the main arrivals building had been destroyed by fire a few weeks before. Wedding marquees, complete with gold chairs was the answer! We had a bit of a wait on the plane as it wasn't allowed too near the marquees in case the engine backdraft blew them down. Instead we had to be towed in, but there was only one tow-truck on duty that evening and it couldn't be found! All worked out fine in the end and we had a good night's sleep in our own beds.
Two days later school started and Bethanie joined Caleb at Braeburn (thanks Anne for the pinafores!).Justin and I didn't start back in the office during the first week which gave us time to unpack and settle the kids (and ourselves!). We had a special day together at Resurrection Gardens.
One family on our team, Nate and Amy Kidder, live out in Karen, where Nate is studying for a Masters in Theology. Their eldest, Karina, turned 4 and had a very girly party :)
Happy Birthday Karina!
Her little brother, Ethan, is not impressed by all the girls!

Deborah does some city-style gardening
With my tendency to have shady gardens, I've had to develop a fondness for foliage!
Bethanie makes a new friend when Chelle and her husband Kevin join our team. This book is an old favourite and was rediscovered in our loft at home :)
Lucas and Caleb head off to the Year 5 disco - theme is 'Fantasy' and Caleb is Prince Caspian
Aly's family started with SIM Kenya whilst we were in the UK. She has a brother, Joel, who is a year younger than Caleb and we're all going to the same church. We're enjoying getting to know these new friends.
Bethanie, Eliana, Aly and Abiella
Bethanie did very well in her first Sports Day despite having been off most of the week with a nasty cough/cold. Her red sash is for being the class 'special helper' that day.
Fun to see more new friendships grow.
And it wasn't long before she'd lost the other tooth too! Now she really looks like a girl who will turn 7 before too long.
Bethanie wants to be an 'orphan carer' - complete with natty handbag!
